from the Montgomery County Government

Montgomery County, Md. May 19, 2022, The Montgomery County Government has approved a MOVE Grant for the biotech company Akan Biosciences, Inc (Akan) to support their office space in the County.

The Make Office Vacancy Extinct (MOVE) Program is designed to assist new business attraction and business formation in the County as part of the Montgomery County Economic Development Fund.

Akan Biosciences, Inc is a biotechnology and cellular therapy company developing next-generation injectable products to treat degenerative diseases and injuries. Akan is developing cellular therapies and proprietary manufacturing methods to produce stem cell-based therapeutics using state-of-the-art tissue engineering and cell-based approaches.

The President of the company, Mukesh Kumar, said, “We deeply appreciate the County’s support to new business. Their generous contribution will assist us in developing and growing our company. We look forward to many more years of success in the County.” Dr. Kumar has over 18 years of experience in the Biotech industry as a regulatory advisor, QA expert, cell therapy regulations, product development, and biotech investments.
